myLot Discussions| Newlyweds: Pregnant or not? | | I just got married on Oct. 4th of this year. So far, everyone I know has asked me is I am pregnant or when will I be pregnant. I realize that this is the natural order of things. At the same time, everyone I know has either been pregnant and/or married and then became pregnant. I want to be prepared for a child. I want almost no debt, a good job, great insurance and a little bit of savings before I have a child. Now I ask you MyLotters... why all the hype? Why is it so inconceivable that I actually have a plan to be well off before having a baby? Has anyone ever asked you these questions? HOW LONG BEFORE IT STOPS?????
| | Why do people tie old shoes and cans on the back of newlyweds' cars? | | This is an old tradition that lots of people partake in, but do we know why? I know it makes a lot of noise so everyone will look at them as they travel to where they are going, but I'd like to know where the tradition came from.
Where did it start?
WHY???Also are there any other wedding traditions that you have in your family?
What are they? | |
| | how newlyweds can put a firm financial foundation under the marriage to come? | | An important element of any successful marriage is the ability to handle money together. And that can be a challenge. Think about it for a moment. If you put any two people together you can almost bet that their views on money will differ. One may look at money as a way to buy things. To another money equals status. Still others seem to go through life without any real regard for money. And that's not surprising. We relate to money uniquely due to a number of different influences in our lives. Everything from our childhood experiences to our philosophy on life will impact the way we use and view money. Each of us will make financial decisions based on a framework that seems logical to us.
During the course of a marriage many choices that are made will be effected by each person's outlook on money. Many disagreements that seem to be about one issue will actually be about the way money is viewed. Unless the underlying problem is realized, it is difficult to resolve the argument.
Anybody have other views on how newlyweds can take a help put a firm financial foundation under the marriage to come?

Sherri Saum and Kamar De Los Reyes by Albert L. Ortega/WireImage.comA pair of tasty tidbits to share about ABC's One Life to Live...
• Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio) married former OLTL co-star Sherri Saum (ex-Keri) in New York City on Saturday, May 19. De los Reyes and Saum, who now stars on FX's Rescue Me, held a small bilingual ceremony in front of family and friends. "The reception had a Spanish theme due to Kamar's Puerto Rican and Cuban heritage, and they even had a cigar roller on hand for the guests," the New York Daily News quotes one wedding guest as saying. The newlyweds are honeymooning in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.
| | Sarah Palin Would Really be In a Reality Show? | | Someone said that Sarah Palin is about to be in a reality show about her family's life in Alaska. Is this correct? I thought she was tired of her family getting "picked on", how would a move like doing a reality show help with that?I don't care who it is -- families that go on reality shows arealmost always doomed. From "newlyweds" to train wreck celebrities, to the couples with a gazillion kids. It seems like almost all these reality show families end up splitting up.Do you think the Palins are really going to do this? | |
| | Is Marriage Dreaded? | | If the wedding day is such a blissful experience, why do the newlyweds-to-be spend separate nights out with 'boys only' or 'girls only' and have the time of their lives before the d-day, with lots of tears (alleged 'happy') in the girls-only group? Is there a notion of dread??? | |
| | This reminded me of you Grandpa Bob | | So I got this in an email today and as I was reading it I couldn't help but think of Grandpa Bob during the whole thing thanks to all of his shoveling and crystal postings...I just had to share it[em]rasp[/em]
SNOW SHOVELER
December 8 - 6:00 PM
It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow.
December 9
We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had! Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel . What a perfect life!

The sun has melted all our lovely snow.. Such a disappointment! My neighbor tells me not to worry- we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be...
| | A Sweet Story about Newlyweds | | A couple had only been married for two weeks. The husband, although very much in love, couldn't wait to go out on the town, and party with his old buddies. So, he said to his new wife, "Honey, I'll be right back."Where are you going, Coochy Coo?" asked the wife."I'm going to the bar, Pretty Face. I'm going to have a beer."The wife said, "You want a beer, my love?" She opened the door to the refrigerator, and showed him 25 different kinds of beer -- brands from 12 different countries including Germany, Holland, Japan, Czech Republic, etc.The husband didn't know what to do, and the only thing that he could think of saying was, "Yes, Lollipop... but at the bar... You know... they have frozen glasses."He didn't get to finish the sentence, because the wife interrupted him by saying, "You want a frozen glass, Puppy Face?" She took a huge beer mug out of the freezer, so frozen that chunks of ice were forming out of the air on it.The husband, looking a bit pale, said, "Yes, Tootsie Roll, but at the bar they have those hors d'oeuvres. I won't be long. I'll be right back. I promise. OK?""You want hors d'oeuvres, Poochie Pooh?" She opened the oven, and took out... | |
